WELCOME TO BITES AND INSIGHTS, WHERE WE TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT RESTAURANTS IN OUR TOWN AND BEYOND.
Intro
Visiting a new restaurant always brings a mix of excitement and curiosity. This was exactly how we felt when we decided to visit Irwin’s Brewing Company Public House in September of 2023.
Unfortunately, our experience did not meet our expectations. The food was great, but the service? Not so much.
Let me share why this visit could have been better.
First Impressions Matter
Walking into Irwin’s Brewing Company felt promising at first. The cozy lighting and warm greeting were inviting. But soon, our mood shifted.
Our waitress seemed more interested in chatting next to us than focusing on her job. Good service means more than just a lovely setting. It’s about feeling seen and taken care of by the staff.
Unfortunately, this was where our concerns began. The initial warmth of the place dimmed as we thought it was overlooked.
A restaurant must ensure guests are attended to promptly and with care. This was different from our experience, setting a tone for the rest of our visit.
Waiting Too Long for Appetizers
Our appetizers seemed to take forever. Thirty-five long minutes, to be exact. While we waited, our server was nowhere near us. Instead, she spent time talking to others.
It was just a casual chat, nothing related to her work. Being attentive could have changed things. A quick word to the kitchen or an update would have helped. Sadly, that help never came.
This wait felt unnecessary and frustrating. It’s like we were invisible. Good service should prevent these long waits, or at least explain them. We didn’t get any of that.
Entree Errors and Delays
Our mains arrived, but only some at a time. Three of us started eating while two waited. It took ten more minutes for the rest. Our waitress did not visit during this wait.
She didn’t ask if everything was okay. We felt overlooked.
Mistakes like this take away from enjoying a meal together. It’s not just about the food arriving. It’s about the whole experience feeling right.
When parts of a meal lag behind, it throws off the rhythm. Everyone should start their meal together.
That didn’t happen for us. It was a letdown.
The Lack of Check-ins
In a good restaurant, servers come around often. They see if you’re happy or need more. That didn’t happen for us.
No one asked about our meal. No one checked if we needed anything else. It felt like we were left on our own. Good service makes you feel looked after.
We missed that feeling here. It’s essential for a server to connect with guests. It shows they care. Our server missed chances to make our visit better.
This lack of attention made our dinner less enjoyable. Being ignored isn’t fun. It shows the place values its guests less. Everyone deserves to feel important when eating out.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get that here.
What This Says About Management
Our lousy experience shows a big problem with the people in charge. When staff don’t do well, it often means their training needed to be better.
The bosses should make sure customers are happy. They didn’t. A good manager checks that the team does their jobs right. Here, it seemed like no one was checking anything.
If they were, we would have felt cared for. Instead, we felt forgotten. This is a sign that management needs to step up. They should train staff better and watch how things run.
Everyone should feel welcome and valued. That’s what makes a restaurant unique.
Sadly, this wasn’t what we found at Irwin’s Brewing Company.
